Epic 8 Hour MTB Relay at Hardwood Hills
Yesterday I took my ancient mountain bike (from 1995!) up to Hardwood Hills to do an 8 hour relay on a 4 man team: the Epic 8 Hour MTB Relay. We ended up doing well, coming 5th out of 34 teams, mostly due to two fast riders we had on our team.
It was surprisingly relaxed, each person would do their lap (or laps), I took about 35 minutes for each 10km lap, then you can hang out and relax until its your turn again.
Some highlights:
- I kept thinking each of my laps was faster than the ones before, but they were all within about 30s of each other :)
- Stu got a flat on one of his laps, and still managed to finish his lap in about the same time my laps take!
- Emma, Tara and Kirsten placed 3rd in the women's 4 person relay, with just 3 riders!
- Joanne and Trevor placed 3rd in the mixed 2 person relay teams, hardcore
- Taking pictures of riders whizzing past you is hard... I recommend using continuous focus!
- Next time I have to make sure someone takes at least one picture of me :)
- Those solo riders are very impressive, riding 8 hours straight, some doing better than 4 person teams
